Five Things

Because it’s Friday and Jessica inspired me to blog.

I have not had major issues with what I call my stomach ulcer in years. Until now. (I don’t know if it is in fact a stomach ulcer because I don’t go to doctors, duh). It could be the excess coffee and booze. That tells you how things have been going around here. I cannot wait to not have so much going on. It feels like it has been years since I have felt settled. Le sigh. More on all this later.

Sloan has gotten ultra clingy. It is sometimes really sweet. Like when I got home from work the other day she wrapped her teeny arms tight around my neck and gave me a kiss!! I almost cried. It is also sometimes really annoying. I can’t get ANYTHING done other than play with her, hold her, stroll her, etc.

I finally went blogger basic and got the Lisi Lerch turquoise tassel earrings. When am I ever going to wear these monsters? I mean, I love them but they will probably be for sale soon. Some PYT will get a lot more use out of them than this old hag.

Side note: I ordered mine from Design Darling and they came in a white box in an envelope. No pretty packaging, no receipt, no note, nothing. I guess I’ve gotten used to these smaller boutiques really having impressive packaging, because that matters right? I had this exact same experience from Mini Moxie baby moccasins. I waited 8 weeks for these little mocs. And got no email response when I asked, very politely, when they may show up since they were a Santa present for Sloany. I finally stalked her instagram and saw where she had replied to several order inquiries there. They finally showed up, after two months, smushed in an envelope. No thank you, sorry it took so long, nothing. I guess I understand you were probably swamped from Christmas orders, but still. Have something generic printed and thrown into the shipping envelope. Anyway, customer service is a pet peeve. And pretty packaging.

I cut my own hair this past weekend. I am constantly getting the itch to do something different with my hair and just can’t wait for appointments sometimes. I think I will cut bangs once it gets cooler (like Reese). This current stagnant humidity and bangs do not mix.

I straight up stole a pair of the Jack Rogers Lilliana sandals via Amazon for $38. I have no idea why they were that cheap, but one day I was just perusing and saw them and of course purchased immediately. Now I’m checking the site regularly just to see if I can snag another pair for cheap. I love them. They are so much more comfortable than the traditional Jacks.

Happy weekend!

My grown up wish list.

A couple things first…

So I dyed my hair brown and I am loving it. Hooray! I can check one thing off my life to-do list. You can check it out on insta if you are so inclined.

My awesome internet friend, Jessica, has started her very own blog…go follow now @ Winchester Wife.

So now for my current grown up wish list.

Untitled-5

Searching for the perfect desk for our awesome little office | Loving these custom drapes for our living room via Etsy | Saw this image of Cottages & Bungalows mag via Studioten25‘s instagram…must paint something like this for our house asap. I’m thinking cow and/or horse | Keeping my fashion simple and basic just like my dear friend Reese | In order to do this, I pretty much need the uber popular Rockstud flats.

What is on your grown up wish list? Do tell.

Updates

As you learned in my previous post, it is hard to stay connected in this world without internet and good cell service. I am once again lounging at my empty in-laws house. They are away for the week and I would like to say we are house sitting as opposed to squatting. Either way we are making ourselves at home, and I am so thankful they do not mind. Our biggest challenge being keeping Rolo from destroying something. Last time, he ate their Direct TV remote. Whoops!

House update: The painters have come and gone except for a few remaining touch ups. I was so excited only to be disappointed by their quality of work. And supposedly one of them got bit by a brown recluse spider while at our house. Geez loueez. Our final electrical inspection is today, and hopefully that means we will have power back on tomorrow. Our countertops are being installed on Thursday. Things are happening! Every single light fixture is finally purchased, all the paint colors have been picked out, my sofa & chair are being dropped off at the upholsterer this week…it feels good. Next up: choosing new hardware for the kitchen cabinets, finally deciding on new floors, getting our gas lines hooked up, more painting.

Product update: I’m still using Cetaphil moisturizer from head to toe and my skin has never been better. Recently, I switched to a new oil facial cleanser and absolutely love it.

Garnier Nourishing Cleansing Oil

I wasn’t really looking for a new face wash as I was happy with Cetaphil, but saw this and decided to give it a try. It takes off ALL eye makeup in an instant and leaves my face feeling hydrated and clean. And it smells good, and after using so much bland no scent Cetaphil, it is a nice change.

Add to Cart update: With all the house expenditures, I have reeled in my shopping like never before. However, I have made two rather large purchases recently.

Rachel Pally ‘Jazz’ Maxi

I bought this for a friend’s January wedding. I loathe being cold, so I started searching for long sleeve dresses and ended up finding this gem. It is so fantastic and I got a ton of compliments. Right now it is on major sale via Amazon. You can expect the same comfort level as with any Rachel Pally number and it is plenty long for you tall girls.

Rag & Bone ‘Harrow’ Camel booties

These booties are in no way new as I have been longing for them for a couple years now. Unfortunately they rarely go on sale and spending $500+ on them was just not in my budget. When visiting my bff in Atlanta, I decided to try them on and they were so comfortable and definitely the most flattering bootie this short, stout legged lady is ever going to find. But again, not on sale. So I have stalked them on eBay and the web in general, basically just giving it up because I really only wanted them in camel. Until one day last week I see some chick on Instagram had just bought them and decided to check out the company she bought them from {Emporium DNA}…long story made long is that they were 50% off and had my size. SOLD. They still have a few sizes left on the website {36, 37, 37.5 — FYI these run almost a full size small}.

I think that is enough for now…have you scored any good end of season deals? Do tell.

#omgshoes | Rag & Bone Booties

I am super late in the game, but decided last week that I am in love with the Rag & Bone Harrow booties. I have obviously been seeing them on celebs and bloggers and other stylish friends for a long while now, but it just hit me that they might be the perfect boot for me. Unfortunately with renovating a house and all, I don’t have $500 to drop on booties. Fortunately they have been around a couple seasons now, and there are several lookalike options out there.

The real thangs are still my favorite, but the Sole Society option is a close second and a mere 18% of the cost. All of the lookalikes come in a variety of colors, just like the originals. This mushroomy color shown is my top choice, although I also like the black.

What are your favorite booties for fall? Do tell.

#omgshoes | Navy

It’s no secret that I really love shoes, and I really love navy. A beautiful marriage.

navy shoes1 | Alexander McQueen

2 | Calvin Klein

3 | Salvatore Ferragamo

4 | LK Bennett

5 | Zara

6 | Chinese Laundry

Those McQueen booties are just incredible, and the cutout CK peep toe booties are a great shoe for summer to fall. A classic navy Ferragamo flat? I think yes. LK Bennett has some serious navy pumps to choose from. Nothing like a pointed pump. And a more economical version of the Jenni Kayne d’orsay flat.

Are you in the navy or no? Do tell.

Rollin’ on Stubbs

The smoking flat, slipper, loafer, whatever you want to call it is has made an enormous comeback to the mainstream. Atop the loafer caste system would be Stubbs & Wootton. A classic name and design, but far from boring. Here are my personal favorites that mix a little cheeky with tradition.

StubbsAvailable for fall, a couple gorgeous jewel tone leopard prints, seen here in the green. LOVE.

F U, my personal favorite.

You can also customize your own slippers. I find these WASPy kicks quite appealing.

Everybody is loving the leaping zebra these days. And a beagle, too.

Add some ming to your step.

H&M Online

First Zara and now H&M! Finally e-commerce has happened for us here in the USofA. I will say I was not overcome with online shopping euphoria when browsing the site. Hopefully there will be more selection in the future. Am I alone with this thought? Regardless, my add to cart looks like this…

HandMI definitely love the mixed media look we started seeing a lot last fall, and I want to pull the trigger this year. This shape is one of my favorites for coats.

The jumpsuit makes me think of Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface, but I find it appealing nonetheless.

I love anything with a dog printed on it. Unless it is a pug. Sorry pug lovers.

Tortoise pointed pumps, yes please.

Followed by some classic, comfy pieces in my favorite daring colors…white & gray.

Sidenote: I finished up Orange is the New Black today. Who else is watching? What say you?

Snarky.

My attitude is quite snarky today. You can thank excessive job stress. I was just sitting in my office chair procrastinating (aka scrolling instagram) and thought how annoying it is that I can’t wear Valentinos to work. Can we talk about #whitegirlproblems ? Remember that time when I had my very own pair of Rockstuds?

photo(94)

It was short lived as I returned them. I have basically cursed the day ever since I made that damn practical decision. It is true I can’t wear heels to work. It is true I live in a tiny town with no place fancy to go…ever. It is true they are still amazing and I wish I had kept them.  Now I get to look at all you bloggers with your $4000 worth of accessories just milling about, and make snarky comments because I am not one of you. Take that.

Speaking of White Girl Problems, who wants the book? I know I do.

Who’s ready for a royal baby announcement?!

Weekend Shopping

ZARA is currently having their seasonal sale, and this always lights my fire. I love Zara. Sometimes I have amazing luck with fit, sometimes things fit like they were made for all the Rachel Bilsons of the world aka tiny as hell. That is just a gamble I am willing to take, and luckily things like free returns exist.  Unfortunately for my closet, I was in one of those super weird moods where I wanted to only dress like Mary Kate Olsen/Hobo chic extraordinaire. I widdled my cart down to these items which will be making their way to eastern NC very soon.

Zara saleI really have no idea what possessed me to think I needed a long printed caftan sack kind of a dress. But it is amazing and even if I only wear it around the house, it will make me happy. Fingers crossed it fits across my caboose.

Pineapples are suddenly everywhere. I am always ahead of the game. Le duh.

If I actually ask myself, ‘Summer, what do you really need?’ My answer would be tank tops, shorts, and that’s pretty much it. So I got myself a tank top. I love a tank top. I was born to wear tank tops.

Bird shorts! These granny shorts are awesome and I’m praying they fit like I am thinking they should.

More Zara shoes. I have so many pairs as it is, but these black and white striped numbers have been in my dreams since I first saw them in New This Week. I love a pop of green and the medium heel has me hoping I will be able to wear these in a more casual setting.

Have you shopped the ZARA sale? You should. It looks like they’ve added new stuff even since Friday. I could totally buy TONS more, but I’m refraining. At least for today…

Shoes for summer

I’m not a big wearer of flip-flops unless it is around the house or to the beach. I am always looking for the perfect summer sandal that will be both flattering to my short legs and comfortable. If you have followed me long at all, you know my obsession with these Michael Kors wedges. I still stand behind them as being the best ever. I left them off this list because they were a given.

Summer SandalsThis is my collection of the more casual, everyday options out there at reasonable price points.

Flat Metallics | Forever 21 : Jack Rogers

Tribal | Zara : Blonde Ambition

Wedges | Zara : Seychelles

Ankle Straps | Schutz : Old Navy

Mid-Heel | Zara : J.Crew

**Don’t knock the Old Navy pair {J. Crew knockoffs?}…they come in a variety of colors, although not available online, check your local store! They are very comfortable and look better in person. I wish I had snagged the orange pair when I first saw them in the store.

What are your go-to summer sandals? Do tell.
